ECO4 installation day and aftercare: a UK household checklist (2026)

Guide by ApplyFreeBoiler.uk (Reliant Energy Solutions Ltd), a heating and insulation installer in Bury, Greater Manchester. We are not the government, Ofgem or an energy supplier.

Once an ECO4 survey has been approved, the next steps are installation day and the paperwork that follows. Knowing what to expect makes the visit smoother and helps if you ever need to use a guarantee. This checklist is general information and does not guarantee funding.

1. Confirm the booking in writing

Ask for the date, arrival window, the measures being fitted and how long the work should take. Check the company name on the paperwork matches the business you dealt with.

2. Clear access before the team arrives

Clear the loft hatch, the area around the boiler, airing cupboards and the walls or floors being worked on. Move furniture away from radiators and outside walls, and arrange for pets to be kept away from the work area.

3. Ask questions on the day

Ask the installer to walk you through what they are doing, where any new pipework, vents or controls will go, and whether any rooms will be without heating or hot water for a period.

4. Learn the new controls

Before the team leaves, ask for a demonstration of the boiler, thermostat, timer and radiator valves, or any heat pump settings. Write down how to reset the system and who to call if it shows a fault.

5. Keep every document

Keep the commissioning paperwork for any new boiler or heating system, any guarantee certificate for insulation, manufacturer warranty details and Building Regulations notifications. Store them together with your EPC; they are useful if you sell or let the home.

6. Expect a possible quality check

ECO4 work is subject to technical monitoring, so an inspector working for the scheme may ask to visit and check the installation. Ask to see identification and confirm the visit with your installer if unsure.

7. Report problems early

If you notice damp patches, cold spots, leaks or controls that do not work, report them to the installer in writing as soon as possible and keep a note of dates.

8. Compare local delivery data

See ECO measures by council on ApplyFreeBoiler.uk, built from DESNZ Household Energy Efficiency statistics.

9. Check eligibility

Use the ApplyFreeBoiler.uk eligibility check to see whether an ECO4 heating or insulation pathway may be available for your home in England, Scotland or Wales. ECO4 is due to close on 31 December 2026.
